What is Tuff Cable?

Tuff Cable is a resistance heating wire that is very durable, 10 gauge coated copper cable that is chemical resistant and comes with footage marks on the wire.  The Tuff Cable has been engineered to work as a low-voltage system.

Does Tuff Cable cause any floor buildup?

Yes, Tuff Cable must always be imbedded completely in a concrete, or mortar bed regardless of which floor covering is going over it.

Does Tuff Cable use a thermostat? How is it activated?

Each system uses an attractive programmable thermostat.  The thermostat can be programmed to measure floor temperature (M321RS), air temperature (M321), or it can be set to be on at desired times.

How is Tuff Cable secured to the floor?

With wood subfloor, anchor the Tuff Cable using Heatizon Plastic Clips.  With concrete sub floor, anchor the Tuff Cable using Heatizon Anchoring Plugs.

What kind of flooring material can I install over Tuff Cable?

Virtually any floor surface can be installed directly over the Tuff Cable, including tile, slate, marble, vinyl, hardwood and carpet.  Never put bean bags, Lovesac, mattresses, or any other insulators directly on a floor that is heated with Tuff Cable.

What are the power requirements for your systems?

The power requirements vary from system to system.  Generally Tuff Cable heating systems require a 120 volt supply, single pole, 20 amp breaker for areas 40 sq. ft. or less.  For areas 40 sq. ft. to 125 sq. ft. requires 240 volt supply, double pole, 20 amp breaker, and areas 125 sq. ft. to 280 sq. ft. requires 240 volt supply, double pole, 30 amp breaker.

Who installs your systems?

All of our systems come with complete installation manuals and a DVD and can be installed by any electrician, contractor, or experienced “do-it-yourselfer.”  An electrician is needed to supply the necessary power to Control Box location.

How long is the warranty?

Tuff Cable comes with an industry leading, 25-year manufacturer’s warranty. 
Tuff Cable is ETL Listed and conforms to UL Standard 1693.
