MI Cable: A History

Heatizon’s Hott-Wire MI cable traces its origins back to 1896 when the first patent for Mineral Insulated Cable was issued. The cable was used on ships and other projects in the years leading up to World War Two when it was used in military equipment. MI cable is very durable and used frequently in powering and controlling critical equipment including nuclear reactors, fire alarms, and emergency systems. The 1930s saw the use of MI cable in Heat Tracing with cable designed specifically for this use entering production in the 1950s.

When installing radiant heat for snow melting or floor warming, one factor that significantly impacts the process is whether the cable is fixed length or cut to fit in the field.

ZMesh: 9″ or 12″?

Our ZMesh for floor warming and roof deicing comes in two widths, 9” and 12”. These options are not necessarily for varying the size of coverage, the major difference is actually related to heat output.

The History of ZMesh [Timeline]

Heatizon ZMesh has a long and successful history of floor warming, space heating, and roof deicing. Its unique construction allows the bronze mesh to be nailed or stapled through during installation, making it ideal for heating under carpet, wood floors, or non-conductive shingles. The system is listed to ETL standards for interior floor and space heat, as well as roof deicing beneath non-conductive materials.

LEED Credits with Heatizon

At Heatizon Systems, we’ve designed radiant heating products that support green concepts, like sustainability, use of fewer natural resources, and energy-efficiency. So, while you enjoy comfortable, radiant heat and lower home maintenance costs, Heatizon will help you protect the environment.

5 Signs You Have an Ice Dam

Ice dams are formed when interior heat escapes and warms the roof. The melting snow then runs to the colder eave, where it refreezes. This process can cause severe damage to your roof, and potentially expose your interior to water damage.

Heated Road in Jackson Hole

ASHRAE and Snow Melting

At Heatizon, we don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to snow melting. Along with our distributors, we use data from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in the design of each snow melting system we sell.

What is a Product Listing?

At Heatizon Systems, we regularly state that all of our products are listed. What does it mean to have a product listed? Why does a listing matter to a customer? And what do acronyms like ETL, UL, CSA, OSHA, and NRTL mean?
